Orrico Junior,Marco Antonio Previdelli; Centurion,Stanley Ribeiro; Orrico,Ana Carolina Amorim; Sunada,Natália da Silva.
The objective of this study was to investigate the influence of different levels of biofertilizers from cattle and swine manure on the structural, morphogenetic and productive characteristics of Brachiaria brizantha cv. Piatã. The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized factorial design with split plots. The plots were defined by eight treatments: two biofertilizers (cattle and swine), four levels (0, 100, 200 and 300 kg N.ha-1) and subplots by four different cutting periods. The cutting for plant uniformity was performed at 45 days after sowing at 15 cm above the soil surface. The biofertilizeres were applied in a single level, after the cutting of plants, in rates of 0, 0.23 and 0.19, 0.45 and 0.38, 0.68 and 0.57 liters pot-1 for the...

Improving predictions of leaf appearance in field grown potato Scientia Agricola
Streck,Nereu Augusto; Lago,Isabel; Paula,Fabiana Luiza Matielo de; Bisognin,Dilson Antônio; Heldwein,Arno Bernardo.
The calculation of leaf appearance rate (LAR) and number of accumulated or emerged leaves (NL) on the main stem are part of many crop simulation models. The purpose of this study was to adapt and evaluate a model (WE model) for simulating the main stem LAR and NL in potato (Solanum tuberosum L.). The WE model is a non-linear multiplicative model that takes into account the effect of genotype and environmental factors on LAR. A linear model (Phyllochron model) was also used as a comparison with the WE model. A series of field experiments with 14 planting dates over two years (2003 and 2004) was carried out in Santa Maria, RS, Brazil, using the cultivar Asterix. Coefficients of the WE model and the phyllochron model were estimated with data from four...

The aim of this study was to assess two residual heights and two light interceptions on morphogenetic, structural and productive characteristics of Pennisetum purpureum Schum. cv. Pioneiro. The experiment was a factorial randomized block design with four replications. We evaluated morphogenetic characteristics in three basal tillers tagged in each plot, in different tussocks. Tiller population density was evaluated in marked areas in all experimental units. The interaction between the factors significantly influenced the leaf and pseudostem elongation rate, the leaf appearance rate, phyllochron, number of leaves per tiller, green leaves per tiller, final leaf blade length, leaf area index and biomass yield. There were no changes in the leaf senescence...

Morphogenesis and structure of Tifton 85 cultivated in subtropical climate and fertilized with nitrogen Animal Sciences
Tiecher, Diego Daniel; Rocha, Marta Gomes da; Pötter, Luciana; Salvador, Paulo Roberto; Bergoli, Tuani Lopes; Milanesi, Gabriela Descovi.
The experiment evaluated the morphogenesis and structure of Tifton 85 (Cynodon spp.) cultivated in subtropical climate and fertilized with nitrogen (N). The experiment was a completely randomized design with four levels of N (Zero; 75; 150 or 225 kg ha-1) in nine replicates per area. The experimental animals were Suffolk female lambs. The grazing method was continuous to maintain the sward height at 15 cm ± 10%. The stem expansion increased by 0.000027 cm degree-days-1 to each kg N applied (linear model). According to nonlinear model, the highest stem expansion (0.0226 cm degree-days-1) was observed with the use 220.1 kg ha-1 N. The leaf lifespan fitted a linear regression model, with increase of 50 degree-days leaf -1, comparing the levels zero and 225 kg...

The aim of this study was to evaluate during the dry and rainy seasons the morphogenesis traits of two clones of dwarf elephant grass under different management strategies. The study was conducted in a factorial 2 × 2 × 3 design, using two clones, one green and one purple, two residual heights, 25 and 45 cm, and three frequencies of defoliation according to the light interception of 90, 95 and 100%. The design was a randomized block with three replications. The variables were leaf elongation and leaf senescence rate, stem elongation rate and phyllochron. The leaf lifespan and the number of living leaves per tiller were also estimated. The clones presented low stem elongation rates, showing adaptation for grazing use. In the rainy season, the light...

Phenology and agronomic components of first and second-cycle strawberry Horticultura Brasileira
Zeist,André R; Resende,Juliano TV de; Lima Filho,Renato B; Gabriel,André; Henschel,Juliane M; Silva,Israel FL da.
ABSTRACT Several strawberry growers have cultivated the same plants for two consecutive cycles aiming a greater economic return after seedling transplant. However, the phenological development and the agronomic potential of second-cycle strawberry have to be estimated. This research was installed to estimate the thermal need, leaf appearance rate, phyllochron and yield of strawberry cultivars in two consecutive crop cycles in the region of the Third Planalto Paranaense. Cultivars Camarosa, Camino Real, Albion, Aromas, Monterrey and San Andreas were evaluated in the first and second growing cycles using completely randomized blocks and four replications. Leaf appearance rate was estimated by linear regression coefficient between the number of leaves and the...

Yield components and morphogenesis of Aruana grass in response to nitrogen supply Scientia Agricola
Lavres Jr.,José; Ferragine,Maria Del Carmen; Gerdes,Luciana; Raposo,Roberto Wagner Cavalcanti; Costa,Michelle Nazaré Xavier da; Monteiro,Francisco Antonio.
Areas with Aruana grass (Panicum maximum Jacq.) in Brazilian pastures, especially those used by sheep, have expanded due to yield and morphological characteristics of this grass that are favorable to these animals. Nevertheless, the knowledge concerning yield attributes of this grass in relation to nitrogen fertilization is very limited. The objective of this research was to evaluate yield and physiological attributes in this forage grass when grown in nutrient solutions containing N rates. The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse with plastic pots containing ground quartz as substrate, during the Spring season. Six N rates in the solution (14, 112, 210, 294, 378, and 462 mg L-1), with 70% N-NO3- and 30% N-NH4+ were tested. Experimental units were...
